- What exactly is ApproveMail?
ApproveMail is a personal or business email service designed to eradicate spam from your email experience. It is NOT a spam filter. Spam filters are known to be easily spoofed by spammers and known for deleting false positive email. When you sign up for ApproveMail, you receive a new email account that should be the last email address you'll ever need. You will only receive the email you want, none of the email you don't want. ApproveMail has an excellent user-friendly interface that is easy to use and intuitive.
- Will ApproveMail sell or "share" my email address or personal information with anyone, including marketing companies?
Absolutely not. This is one of the biggest areas that sets ApproveMail apart from the competition. We respect your privacy 100%. We don't know of any other email service that does not use your account information for marketing purposes. We don't do this now, and we never will.
- Does ApproveMail send its customers promotional email?
No. This is yet another element that sets us apart from the competition. We will only email you regarding information or services that pertain directly to your ApproveMail account.
- What are some of the benefits of signing up to ApproveMail?

- Why should I pay for email when I can get it for free?
There is no such thing as a free lunch. These "free" email service providers wouldn't be in business if they weren't making a profit off of their subscribers. They make money off of advertising to subscribers, selling subscribers email addresses and personal information, and selling their own services and merchandise to the subscribers. We are a premium email service provider and are only interested in providing our customers with a premium online experience. We do not advertise to you, nor do we sell your email address. For literally pennies a day, we keep our subscribers spam free and happy. Our concept can be compared to commercial-free radio or television -- it is for people who do not have the time nor desire to be bombarded with invasive marketing.
- Can I get ApproveMail accounts for my kids?
Absolutely! Many parents want to do whatever they can to keep their kids' online experience as safe as possible. Getting an ApproveMail account for your children will ensure that at least their email is free from unwanted solicitations and invasive advertising.
- How does ApproveMail keep me spam-free?
Here's how it works. If someone sends you an email and they are not on your "Approved Sender" list, they are sent a simple Authentication Request that must be answered (within the time period you specify) prior to delivering their original email to your Inbox. In the meantime, the email is held in your Pending folder. This process only needs to be done once for each "real" sender who is not already on your Approved Sender List, and literally takes only a few seconds to complete. Once someone has been Approved, their original email will be moved from your Pending folder to your Inbox, and any subsequent emails they send will be delivered straight through. In addition, any address that you send an email to or any address that is in your address book is automatically added to your Approved sender list so they do not need to go through the Approval process. Please visit the How it Works page for a visual representation. So, how is this able to stop spam? Simple. Our ApproveMail system foils spammers because it requires human interaction to pass this Approval process. While this is a very easy task for real people, the automated mailing software and computers used by spammers simply cannot deal with it. Note that you can always look at all unknown email waiting in your Pending folder and decide what actions you would like to take yourself. This is useful if you have forgotten to include the domains or addresses of newsletters, statements, receipts, or other automated mail in your Approved Sender list.
- How does ApproveMail block 100% of spam?
Our Sender Approval System is the brain behind our spam-blocking technique. It is not simply a spam-filter, which by default allows all email through and then tries to "guess" which email is legitimate. We feel this technique is limiting and by default inaccurate. Many people might have a misconception about spammers. They are thought of as rogue individuals working out of a darkened basement somewhere. While this may be true in some cases, spamming as a whole generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year. It is in fact a huge industry, and the companies and people involved are quite serious about it. Part of their business activity is to regularly evaluate spam-filters that are on the market, and then design their spam messages to pass right through the filters. We take a completely different approach. By default, we block ALL email, and only allow through what YOU decide you want to receive, and from whom. This virtually eliminates the possibility that you will receive unwanted junk email.
- How do I receive mail from anyone who is not on my Approved Sender List?
There may be situations when you would like to receive mail from someone that is not already on your Approved Sender list--for example, an old friend who has been trying to find you. If a real person attempts to contact you via email, the email they send will initially go into your Pending folder where it will await approval. Meanwhile, the sender will be sent an Authentication Request from your email address asking them to click a link and enter a few characters in an online form. They will only need to do this once, and once they do, their email will be moved from your Pending folder to your Inbox (or other designated folder) and they will automatically be added to your Approved Sender list.
- How can I receive certain emails such as newsletters or statements from auto-senders that cannot respond to the authorization request? For example, when making an online purchase.
There are a several ways to do this. One way to handle mail from automated senders is to use a Disposable Tracer Email Address, which is not subject to the Approval process. Or, you can treat these auto-senders the same way you would treat people from whom you wish to receive mail. For example, if you are currently receiving a newsletter that is always sent from the same email address, simply add that email address to your Approved Sender list. If the specific address changes periodically, but the domain remains the same, you can add the domain name itself to your Approved Sender list, so any sender from that domain will be allowed to send you email. If you are uncertain who the sender will be but are expecting an auto-generated email, you can also simply look in your "Pending" folder for the email you are expecting, and then add the sender to your Approved Sender list manually if necessary. ApproveMail allows you to enable and disable the Sender Approval System whenever you like. When you first sign-up for your account, you should take just a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the Sender Approval System and build your Approved Sender list. For example, when you add someone to your address book or send someone an email, that address will automatically be added to your Approved Sender list. If you import your address book from another email program, all of those addresses will automatically be added to your Approved Sender list as well.
- When I send an email to someone, do I need to add them to my Approved Sender List in order to receive a reply?
No. Any time you email someone, their email address will be automatically added to your Approved Sender List so that any reply or future message they send you will be delivered directly to you. Your Approved Sender List can be built-up automatically in this manner.
- What is the Pending folder?
The Pending folder is a folder in your ApproveMail account where messages from non-approved senders are stored. Once a sender is approved to send email to you, their message moves from your Pending folder to your Inbox or other designated folder. Because most spam is computer-generated, there will be no human to respond to our Authentication Request, and these emails will stay in your Pending folder until ApproveMail automatically deletes them for you after a period of time which you specify.
- How much storage do I get with ApproveMail?
Each ApproveMail account includes an incredible 1 Gigabyte of storage! Having a large mailbox is especially important if you expect to receive digital pictures from friends and family, but is also useful to those who like to retain their email history.
- Can I check other email accounts using my ApproveMail account?
Generally speaking, you can check your other email accounts if they allow POP access. However, due to the incredible variety of email services available, we cannot guarantee compatibility with your particular email service. That being said, if your other account allows POP access, there is a high probability that you will be able to do this. If you have concerns or questions about this, you should contact your email service provider directly and ask them if they allow POP access.
- Can I forward my mail to another email address?
Yes. You can forward your ApproveMail email to another email account if you wish.
- Does ApproveMail allow email attachments? How big?
Yes. We understand that sending and receiving attachments is a major part of utilizing email. In fact, we allow huge 10MB file attachments!
- What is a Disposable "Tracer" Email Address? How do I use it?
A Disposable "Tracer" Email Address is an email address that you create from within your ApproveMail interface. This allows you to easily create and use up to 15 Tracers at a time, and delete as needed. Tracers provide you with an easy method to receive email from automated systems that cannot respond to our Authentication Requests, while still protecting your primary Address from spam and other unwanted mail. Tracers consist of a combination of your "real" Email Address, along with letters and/or numbers that you specify. You can manage Tracers in the Options section of the user interface.
- Does ApproveMail offer a service for businesses?
ApproveMail is in the process of automating a business package feature which will include multiple accounts, administration capabilities, and the use of your own domain. We may be able to set you up manually for this service. If you are interested please contact us for more information.
- Will my account and/or email be deleted if I don't use my account for an extended period of time?
Absolutely not. It is your right to log in as frequently or infrequently as you like while you are a member. However, failure to pay for the service will result in your account being deleted.
- How do I retrieve a lost password?
If you've forgotten your Password, go to our
lost password page. We will then ask you to answer the secret question you chose when you signed up for ApproveMail. We do this to verify your identity. Correctly answer the question, click the "next" button, and we will then provide you with your password so you can login.

ApproveMail's servers are located in the Eastern (US) Time Zone. To adjust your email account to display your local time click the "Options" icon and select "Message Display Options." Here you will be able to select your personal time preference.
- I don't share my computer with anyone. Should I sign out of ApproveMail when I'm done using it?
You do not have to log out of ApproveMail, but due to security reasons associated with webmail, ApproveMail will sign you off after a certain period of idle time and take you to the login page. If you have selected to remember your username, you can simply enter your password and log right back in.
- What is ApproveMail's free trial period?
ApproveMail offers a free trial of 4 weeks when you sign up for an account. If you are not satisfied with your account for any reason, and you cancel within the trial period, your credit card will never be charged. See the Terms of Service for complete details.
- I like the idea of not having any advertising in my account, but I'm not sure I want to use the Sender Approval System. Will ApproveMail still filter my spam if I disable the system?
Yes! You may enable or disable the Sender Approval System at any time. If the Sender Approval System is disabled, ApproveMail automatically initiates a "learning" spam filter for your account and begins processing your incoming email using this filter. A "Spam" mailbox will automatically be created within your account, and email that our system identifies as spam will be placed in this folder for your inspection. If you re-enable the Sender Approval System, the Spam folder will no longer be visible in your account because all incoming email will be processed by the Sender Approval System.
